Stolen Recipe Remix

So if you've been around for awhile you may remember the Stolen Recipe blog. When I went to visit The Saucy Irish she made that dish in her own version for me. I was hooked and hoped my Asylum Residents would like it too. Lucky for me...they did!

Well fast forward a few years and now my Residents are making suggestions on ways to cage it and they are learning how to make it!  They came up with this version while they were helping me grocery shop!

I highly recommend taking your kids shopping. Make them aware of your budget and brands. They tend to complain less and not ask for things you can't afford when the understand what it means to have a budget!

So here is the version my Residents came up with and it had rave reviews at the table last night!

Cheesy noodle mix (yeah they named it)

4-8 cheddar pork brats (we figure 2 per person for left overs)
Ragu Four Cheese sauce
1 can diced tomatoes, don't drain
1/2 onion (yellow or white)
Green or red peppers (optional)
Salt and paper to taste
1 box noodles (they used bow tie)

Slice the brats and fry/cook them. They will create their own liquid. I put a lid on and let them cook turning every few minites.

Meanwhile, make your noodles according to the package.

Add onions and tomatoes to brats when they have finished cooking. Then add sauce, mix well and let simmer until your noodles are finished.

When your noodles are cooked, strain them, rinse them with cold water. That stops the cooking process. They won't become mushy that way!

You can do the next step two ways.

Place the noodles in with the brat mixture and combine. OR Serve the needles and top with brat mixture.

Have a cheesy time with your Residents!

Lasagna redo

Settle in it's a long one...

So for those of you who follow us, you know that I did my hubs lasagna recipe a while back (if you are new, then you will learn where the idea of an Asylum came from). I was informed that I did not   give you a proper recipe. I believe the conversation went like this(the PG-13 version).

Spicy "what recipe should I use tomorrow?"
Mr. Spicy "if you give me credit you can use my lasagna."
Spicy "I did that yesterday."
Mr. Spicy "did you tell them the proper way to make it?"
Spicy "I said layer the ingredients in the pan"
Mr. Spicy "there is a proper way to make it! People are just out there willy nilly throwing $ hit in a pan."
Here is where I left to get a drink....
When I came back he was into the structural integrity and something about a fork cutting through properly! I believe there was something about "people out there "bleeping" it up!"
So here I am giving you the CORRECT recipe.

Mr. Spicy's Lasagna

Ingredients
2 lb hamburger
2 lbs mozzarella cheese
1 large or 2 small jars Prego Traditional spaghetti sauce.
1 box lasagna noodles

Directions

1.) Get your wife to brown the hamburger. She will probably add dried minced onion without you knowing.
2.) Get your oldest child to boil water for the noodles and tell him to set the oven at 375°, then tell him you said 350°!
3.) Boil your noodles or have said child boil them. Under cook them so they finish cooking in the oven and are not mushy.
4.) Get a GLASS cake pan or have said child do that as well.
5.) Place a layer of noodles, then meat, then sauce, then cheese. In THIS order, no willy nilly $ hit!
(Please make your layers even and spread the sauce perfectly over the meat)

This is also where you will need to feed cheese to the dog and then complain to your wife that the dog is fat.

6.) Then a layer of meat, then sauce, then noodles and top with cheese and use all of your OCD powers to make it look perfect.
Try to hide from the dog that you are eating more cheese.

7.) Bake for 35-40 minutes but check it at 30 min. You want to see the bottom layers bubbling and the edges of the cheese on top should be golden brown.
8.) Serve pieces the size of your families head's.
9.) Tell everyone how YOU make awesome lasagna while your family cleans up and looks at you funny.

Now do you understand the Asylum theory?!?!?!  I love my hubs to (lasagna) pieces but there are some days that I wonder about the last 16 years...

I may or may not be around much this week as we are going to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally! I hope to check into the Facebook page with food from the Rally!  Take care and enjoy the rest of your summer!

Recipe from necessity!

TODAY IS OUR 90th POST!!!  Thank you for coming on our journey with us!

So last night I realized I forgot to plan a side dish. I got lost in writing/researching a book and barely came out to breathe let alone think of food! So, while my hubs grilled the little round steaks we found in the Commissary sale section I was left to worry about the side.
So today's recipe was a fluke and turned out amazing!

Noodle Stir-fry

1/2-1 box or bag of Noodles (I used what was left in the cupboard)
1 TBSP olive oil
2-3 Peppers,  sliced
Garlic,  3 cloves chopped
1/2 onion,  chopped
3-4 tsp Maggi seasoning (I also put 1 TBSP in the noodle water)
Stir-fry your veggies in the olive oil, adding the Maggi toward the end and boil your noodles. I added about 1/2 cup water to the stir-fry as well as the Maggi to get the good bits off the pan.  After the noodles are cooked drain and add to the veggies.  Taste.  I added some more Maggi.  If you don't have Maggi you can use Soy Sauce!

As you can see by the pictures the Residents loved it!  I ate just this and skipped the steaks!

Stolen recipe!

The Saucy Irish taught me this recipe when I got to spend two whole weeks with her in a very strangely warm place! I wasn't used to all that sunshine! She taught me this and the Piña Colada Cake she shared with you before.

I stole the recipe and made some changes to fit my family. I make this at least once a week as there are so many variations you can do to make it for your Asylum Residents or your Asylum cupboard!  So I will do this recipe a little different, I am going to break down the recipe by ingredient and you choose which one!

Meat choice-choose one:
*Hot Italian sausage, cooked (ground or brats).
*Italian Sausage, cooked (ground or brats).
*hamburger, cooked
*chicken, cooked and diced
*whatever you have thawed in the fridge ;)

Noodles or Rice
Whatever is in the cupboard! I have used bow tie, macaroni, spaghetti, or twists!

Sauce
Again what do you have in the cupboard? We like Ragu Parmesan Garlic white sauce or any Alfredo sauce. We have used spaghetti sauce as well.  When my hubs is gone I make it with a sauce that has mushrooms.

Veggies
I like to throw in sliced peppers, several different colors if I have them.
Tomatoes-fresh,diced. If you dot have fresh canned works great! Don't drain though!
Mushrooms-if your Residents will eat them...

Seasoning
I usually don't have to add much as we use the Hot Italian Sausage and it is pretty spicy! If I'm not using it I will add crushed red pepper, salt, and garlic.

If I am using brats I slice them and brown them. Otherwise add your cooked meat to your cooked and drained noodles.  Add your veggies and sauce and let summer for 5 min. This gets the flavors blended!

I hope that wasn't nearly as confusing as it felt to type! If it is let me know and I will try to clear it up for you!

Here is the exact recipe I am using today:
Sautée 2 small peppers ( I used green and yellow), 1 can diced tomatoes, 1/2 onion and 4 garlic cloves.

Brown up 1 lb hot Italian sausage and 1 lb Italian sausage.

Cook noodles, drain. Combine everything. I don't have anything but spaghetti sauce so I am skipping the sauce tonight!
